What is the typical salary for a nanny in the metro area?

The salary for a typical nanny in the washington dc metro area is $15 - $25 per hour. Rates vary on years of experience, education, duties and number of children. All salaries are paid directly to the nanny.

 

Is my nanny an employee or an independent contractor?

Nannies are employees of the household for which they work. In a employee/employer relationship the family controls the work hours, work place and responsibilities of the job. In a contractor relationship the nanny would set her own hours, provide her own place of work and offer services to the public.

 

Are ther any tax incentives?

Yes. Congress has enacted tax benefits to soften the blow of childcare cost through employer provided dependent care accounts and the Tax Credit for Child or Dependent Care.

Dependent Care Account. Participating companies allow employees with child or dependent care expenses to contribute up to $5,000 of their pretax earnings to an individual Dependent Care Account. Funds can then be used to cover childcare expenses free of taxes.

Tax Credit No Dependent Care Account. Look into calming a tax credit for Child or Dependent Care.  Expenses up to $3,000 for one dependent $6,000 for two or more can be counted toward a tax credit of 20-30%.

 

What about vacation, holiday and sick pay?

Paid holidays, vacation and sick pay are not required by law. This is a benefit offered by the family and should be outlined in the employment agreement.

 

How long does it take to place a permanent nanny?

We like to give a window of two - four weeks.

 

How does the one year guarantee work?

Our service guarantee allows a family a replacement nanny in the unforeseen chance the nanny does not work out with in the first year. We will provide a replacement at no additional charge under the original contract.
